Enrolling
At William Duncan State School we believe it is important that we develop a partnership with our families. To support this relationship and welcome new families into our William Duncan State School community, we require that all enrolling students and the parent / caregiver attend an initial enrolment meeting.
At this meeting a staff member, will obtain relevant information about the student that will facilitate a smooth transition and to clarify school policies and procedures for the family. They will also discuss our school uniform and behaviour policies as well as answer any questions you may have.
Preparatory Year
The preparatory year of schooling is
the first year of school and provides the
foundation for your child's education. It is compulsory for Queensland children to undertake Prep prior to Year 1. Prep is a full-time program in primary schools and has a defined curriculum. Children attend Monday to Friday, generally from 8:55 a.m. to 2:55 p.m.
Children must be aged five by 30 June in the year they enrol. Parents can enrol their child in the preparatory year by contacting the school directly. There will be no waiting list for enrolment in the preparatory year.
To determine when your child can commence their prep year, use the
prep ready reckoner calculator.
Primary
From January 2008, children must be six by 30 June in the year they enrol in year 1. Under special circumstances, children may be enrolled at a younger age. Parents may enrol a child in their local primary school by contacting the school directly. For a child entering year 1, schools require proof of the child's date of birth, such as a birth certificate, passport or visa.
Enrolment Management Policy
The
William Duncan State School Enrolment Management Policy
is based on the premise that all students residing within this boundary will be able to enroll at William Duncan State School.
Parents or legal guardians who wish to enroll their child at the school will need to demonstrate that the student's principal place of residence is within the catchment area. Current proof of residency at the address indicated can be provided by way of one of each of the following:
-
One primary source — a current rental/lease agreement, or rates notice, or unconditional contract of sale.
-
One secondary source — a utility bill (e.g. electricity, gas) showing this same address and parent's/legal guardian's name.
Students residing external to this may be accepted if they meet the following criteria:
-
a parent is a current staff member of William Duncan State School.
-
a sibling is a current student of William Duncan State School.
Follow this link to check whether you reside in the
William Duncan State School catchment.
Enrolment Procedure
An enrolment form needs to be completed for every child at the time of their enrolment.
Two regulations of the Education Act to note are:
-
For the purpose of enrolment of a child, the principal requires a parent/guardian to produce documentary evidence of the date of birth of this child if the child is from interstate or from a non-state school, or produce a transfer form if the child is from another state school.
-
If a student was born overseas, evidence of citizenship, passport and Visa must be produced prior to the commencement of enrolment.
Please download the enrolment package below, and complete as necessary.
